Yahweh reveals Himself as the personal, faithful, holy, and gracious God who desires covenant relationship with His people. Jesus is Yahweh revealed in the flesh, showing that the same God of mercy, justice, and faithfulness is present throughout both Testaments. True worship responds to God’s self-revelation with praise, reverence, humility, faith, and obedience.

The Name Yahweh

  • God reveals His personal name as Yahweh — YHWH.

  • In Exodus 3, His name communicates, “I will be” and “I will be there.”

  • God’s name reveals His presence, faithfulness, and commitment to His people.

  • In English Bibles, YHWH is commonly rendered as LORD.

A Personal Covenant God

  • Yahweh is not merely a title; it is the name God reveals for Himself.

  • His name communicates that He will be present to deliver, reveal Himself, care for His people, and fulfill His promises.

  • God reveals Himself personally because He desires covenant relationship.

  • Yahweh revealed Himself to Israel so that blessing could ultimately extend to the world.

Why Yahweh Is Worthy of Worship

  • Yahweh redeemed Israel from slavery and became their Savior.

  • He protected, provided for, and cared for His people.

  • He called Israel into covenant relationship and ruled as their Sovereign.

  • He revealed His will and invited His people into relationship with Him.

Yahweh as Judge and Friend

  • Yahweh judges unfaithfulness because He is holy and just.

  • He also promises restoration and mercy.

  • God reveals His plans to His people as an expression of relationship and friendship.

  • His justice, mercy, care, and faithfulness all make Him worthy of worship.

One God in Both Testaments

  • Scripture does not present one God in the Old Testament and another in the New Testament.

  • Exodus 34:6–7 reveals Yahweh as compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, loving, faithful, and just.

  • God’s mercy does not eliminate His justice.

  • The same holy and gracious God is revealed throughout Scripture.

Jesus Is Yahweh

  • John 1:14 declares that the Word became flesh and revealed God’s glory.

  • The language of “grace and truth” echoes Yahweh’s self-revelation in Exodus 34.

  • Jesus reveals the same character of the God who appeared to Moses.

  • Jesus is Yahweh, the God of Israel, revealed in the flesh.

God Reveals Himself at Sinai

  • Exodus 19–24 presents one of Scripture’s greatest scenes of corporate worship.

  • God brings Israel to Sinai, reveals Himself, and calls them into covenant obedience.

  • Moses and the elders are allowed to behold God and eat in His presence.

  • Worship begins with God revealing Himself and His people responding.

Worship and the Presence of God

  • At Sinai, God takes the initiative and makes His presence known.

  • True worship is not ultimately controlled by human personalities or programs.

  • God calls His people to hear His voice and obey His covenant.

  • Authentic worship responds to God’s revelation with reverence and obedience.

Psalm 95 — A Call to Worship

  • Psalm 95 calls God’s people to sing, give thanks, bow down, and kneel before Yahweh.

  • Yahweh is the great God, Creator, King, and Shepherd of His people.

  • True worship begins by recognizing who God is and who we are before Him.

  • Our proper response is humility, gratitude, and submission.

The Evidence of True Worship

  • Psalm 95 moves from outward worship to the condition of the heart.

  • True worshipers hear God’s voice and do not harden their hearts.

  • Worship is more than singing or bowing; it includes faith that responds in obedience.

  • An open and responsive heart is evidence of authentic worship.

Yahweh Is Worthy

  • Yahweh is worthy because He is supreme and sovereign over all creation.

  • He is worthy because He has graciously entered into relationship with His people.

  • Those who belong to Him are people of faith who trust and respond to Him.

  • God reveals Himself because He desires His people to draw near to Him.
